G'day from the road! Today marks another significant milestone on our Big Lap adventure – we've officially crossed the border into New South Wales for the first time! There's something genuinely thrilling about leaving South Australia behind and entering a new state, knowing we're ticking off another section of this incredible journey around our sunburnt country.
The border crossing itself was a moment worth celebrating, and of course, our trusty travel companion – the cheeky Minion in his hula skirt – had to make an appearance for the obligatory photo op at the 'Welcome to New South Wales' sign. It's become a bit of a tradition for us, documenting these state boundaries, and this one felt particularly special. The sky was putting on a show too, with fluffy clouds drifting overhead as if welcoming us across the line.
Before reaching the border, we made our way through the remote Cockburn Pastoral Area in South Australia's outback. The Toyota Land Cruiser handled the journey beautifully, and we stopped briefly in one of those quintessential outback towns that seem frozen in time. You know the type – sparse vegetation, historic buildings with weathered red roofs, and that distinct feeling of being properly remote. The threatening clouds overhead added drama to the landscape, reminding us that weather in the outback can change in a heartbeat.

These small roadside settlements are fascinating glimpses into outback life, where resilience and community spirit keep towns going despite the harsh conditions. We grabbed some supplies and stretched our legs before pushing on toward the state line.
Crossing into NSW opens up a whole new chapter of our Big Lap. We're excited about what lies ahead – different landscapes, new communities, and countless adventures waiting to unfold. Lisa's already planning our route through the western regions, and I'm looking forward to capturing the changing scenery through my lens.
For anyone following along on their own Big Lap dreams, these border crossings really do feel like achievements. Each state brings its own character, and NSW promises to deliver plenty of both challenge and beauty. Here we go!
