Sometimes the best discoveries on the road are the ones you least expect. Morning walk into Peterborough, we were simply looking for a decent coffee and maybe a bite to eat. What we found at 229 On Main Cafe was so much more than that—it's one of those wonderfully quirky places that makes you smile from the moment you walk through the door.

The cafe itself is lovely, with a warm, welcoming vibe that instantly puts you at ease. There's something genuinely peaceful about settling into a country town cafe where the pace slows right down. The coffee was spot on, and the atmosphere had that unpretentious charm you find in the best small-town Australian establishments. But here's where it gets interesting—this isn't just a cafe.

Attached to the cafe is an absolutely fascinating collection of vintage memorabilia and antiques that's worth exploring. We're talking proper museum-quality stuff here. There's a beautifully preserved teal vintage taxi that's just stunning, complete with all its character and patina. Military displays featuring jeeps and motorcycles sit alongside Hollywood memorabilia—Marilyn Monroe figurines lounging on Art Deco furniture, Blues Brothers statues, and vintage cinema seats.

The whole place is a bit like stepping into someone's incredibly eclectic and well-curated collection of Australian nostalgia and Americana. There are vintage chef statues giving you the thumbs up, old cinema screens with red velvet curtains, and license plates covering the walls. It's the kind of place where you could easily spend an hour just wandering around, discovering new treasures in every corner.

What really struck us was how seamlessly they've combined the cafe with this museum space. You can sit with your coffee surrounded by history, which creates such a unique atmosphere. Lisa absolutely loved it—she was snapping photos of everything.

If you're passing through Peterborough, do yourself a favour and stop in at 229 On Main. It's these unexpected gems that make the Big Lap so rewarding. You come for the coffee, you stay for the vintage taxi and Hollywood memorabilia. Bloody brilliant.
