After the craggy, wave-worn beauty of Elliston, we decided to point ourselves west, eager to experience the vastness of the Nullarbor Plain. Our journey led us to a free camp situated near the Head of the Bight, within the locality of Yalata, South Australia.
The Head of the Bight is, to put it mildly, remote. It's the kind of place where the horizon stretches on forever, and the stars at night feel close enough to touch.

We found the free camping area surprisingly well-maintained, considering its isolated location. There were several other caravans and RVs already set up, all eager to witness the spectacle that the Bight is known for.
We settled in and prepared for what we anticipated would be a spectacular sunset. The Nullarbor is known for its dramatic skies, and it certainly didn't disappoint. The colours intensified as the sun dipped lower, painting the sky in vibrant hues of orange, pink, and purple.

It was a truly breathtaking experience, and one we’ll not soon forget. It certainly made the journey here worthwhile.
The vast emptiness and the magnificent sunset provided a sense of tranquility that's hard to find in more populated areas. It’s something we find is crucial to our enjoyment when we travel. We wouldn't trade the experience for anything. After all, isn't that what retirement is for?
