After the dramatic cliffs and caves of Elliston, we decided on a change of pace, opting for a quiet free camp at Haslam. A bit of a backwater, really, but that’s exactly what we needed.

The town has a certain peaceful charm, if you can overlook the ever-present flies. The main attraction, and practically the only attraction, is the long jetty that stretches out into the calm, turquoise waters. It's the kind of place where the biggest excitement is watching a pelican try to swallow a fish whole, which, to be fair, did provide a good 15 minutes of solid entertainment. The jetty itself is sturdy, if a bit weathered, and offers great views of the coastline. It's also home to a couple of rather artistic surfboard installations, which seemed a bit out of place, but we suppose every town needs its quirky landmarks. We plan to stay a night or two and enjoy the solitude. Sometimes, the best adventures are the quiet ones.
