Having heard whispers of spectacular sunrises at Point Lowly, we decided to give it a try. We set the alarm (grudgingly, of course) and were rewarded with a display of fiery colours painting the sky over the Spencer Gulf.

The horizon was ablaze with oranges and reds, gradually softening into hues of blue as the sun climbed higher.

Point Lowly offered a unique perspective, a blend of industrial activity in the distance and the stark beauty of the coastline. We could make out the shapes of distant vessels, adding a touch of human presence to the vast expanse of the water. The sunrise casts a soft light on the distant land.

What we weren’t expecting however, was the welcoming committee. Just as we were finishing our morning coffee, we were greeted by a trio of kangaroos right outside. One even looked directly at us, clearly curious about the early morning visitors. Seems they were just as eager to start the day as we were. We watched the kangaroos graze peacefully near the edge of the dunes.

It felt like a truly Australian experience. We were grateful for such a memorable start to the day. The Corporation of the City of Whyalla, South Australia certainly knows how to surprise.
