St Kilda, South Australia, offered a surprising mix of tranquility and whimsy during our visit. Waking to the sunrise on the plains, we were struck by the serene stillness of the waters.

The early morning light cast long shadows, painting the landscape in soft hues. We often find these quiet moments before the day truly begins to be some of the most rewarding on our travels.
The calm extended to the shoreline, where the water lay as smooth as glass.

It’s hard to believe this peaceful scene is just a short drive from Adelaide. The air was crisp and clean, carrying the scent of salt and something else... a hint of adventure, perhaps?
That hint proved to be accurate. Along the coast, we encountered a rather unexpected sight: a pirate ship.

A landlocked, concrete pirate ship, that is. With a skull and crossbones flying proudly, it’s clearly a popular spot for imaginative play.
Further inland, the playfulness continued with an impressive castle structure.

This wasn't some small climbing frame; this was a full-fledged, multi-story castle with slides – a childhood dream realised on a grand scale. We even saw a few adults partaking in the fun.
As we prepared to move on, a flurry of birds took flight from the trees, creating a noisy, flapping spectacle against the clear blue sky.

The local birdlife provides a constant reminder of nature’s presence, even in the most developed areas. St Kilda, you surprised us. While we came expecting a simple coastal stopover, we found a community that clearly values both peace and play.
