Our exploration of South Australia continues, and our latest stop was the charming coastal city of Victor Harbor. It's a place that immediately struck us as a blend of old-world charm and dramatic natural beauty.
The most iconic attraction in Victor Harbor is undoubtedly Granite Island.

Getting to the island itself is quite an experience, primarily because of the charming horse-drawn tram. We watched passengers climb aboard this open-air tram as the Clydesdale prepared for another run. It's a rather novel way to travel.
Once on the island, the views are simply stunning. A network of boardwalks and stairs zigzags across the rugged landscape.

This made traversing the often-steep terrain much easier and safer. The boardwalks provide access to different vantage points all over the island.
From the summit of Granite Island, we could see across the Backstairs Passage.

A breakwater protects the harbor, creating a sheltered area for boats. The island's natural beauty is hard to overstate.
The coastline in this part of South Australia is dramatic.

The massive granite boulders are sculpted by the relentless pounding of the Southern Ocean. The turquoise water contrasts with the pinkish hues of the lichen-covered rocks.

These scenes could have been painted by the gods.
Before leaving Victor Harbor, we took a stroll along the causeway linking the mainland to nearby Hindmarsh Island.

The long, white structure stretching across the bay is quite picturesque. It provides access to yet another island, offering its own unique perspective on the region. Victor Harbor is a great base for exploring more of the Fleurieu Peninsula. We’re glad we stopped.
