The South Australian coast always offers a certain rugged beauty, but sometimes we find ourselves drawn to the quieter spots.

Port Elliot, with its gently curving beaches and low headlands, proved to be just such a place. It’s a stark contrast to some of the more dramatic cliffs we’ve seen further west.

We spent a good portion of the afternoon simply wandering along the shoreline. The sand is firm underfoot, perfect for a leisurely stroll without the constant threat of sinking ankle-deep. We observed children building elaborate sandcastles, their parents offering (mostly) helpful advice, and a few hardy souls braving the cool water.

The water was incredibly clear, with a distinct turquoise hue that you only get in certain parts of the world. It made us think of our grandchildren.

After our walk, we settled at one of the picnic tables overlooking Horseshoe Bay. It's a perfect vantage point to simply sit and watch the world go by.

We found ourselves reflecting on the previous few days of our trip and planning the next few. Sometimes, the best part of traveling is just having the time to do absolutely nothing of consequence, soaking in the atmosphere and enjoying each other's company. The fresh sea air certainly helps to clear the cobwebs. We will be back, probably around the same time next year.
