Staying with our friends Greg and Sue, we decided to express our gratitude with some premium Mount Dandenong chocolates. We were storing our caravan at their place while taking a quick flight back to Perth for a funeral, and their generosity was immense. A small token of our appreciation was in order, and what better than chocolate?
Before diving headfirst into the confectionery, we took advantage of our location on Mount Dandenong and drove up to one of the lookouts. The view was quite something. You could see the Melbourne skyline on the horizon, a hazy smudge in the distance.

It’s easy to lose track of just how expansive the suburbs of Melbourne are, hidden as they are by all the greenery.
A short walk revealed an impressive carved wooden pole.

The detail of the carving was quite remarkable. It must have taken a considerable amount of time and skill to create. Nearby, we found an interesting old tree, the kind with exposed roots that invite climbing.

We refrained from climbing, naturally; we’re not as sprightly as we used to be.
After a sufficient dose of scenery, we headed to the chocolate factory. The sheer volume of chocolate on display was overwhelming.

Aisles upon aisles of every conceivable type of chocolate. We navigated through the crowds of people, all buzzing with the excitement of sugar, and finally found the perfect selection of treats for Greg and Sue.

A box of assorted chocolates, a dark chocolate block, and some chocolate-covered macadamia nuts. We figured that should cover all the bases.
With our mission accomplished and the thank-you gifts secured, we felt a bit better about leaving Greg and Sue with the caravan. Although we may have also picked up a few extra treats for ourselves. Strictly for quality control purposes, of course.
