We found ourselves eager to explore the natural beauty of the Shire of South Gippsland, Victoria. Deciding on a section of the Grand Strzelecki Track, we set out for what we hoped would be a leisurely walk.
The air was fresh and crisp, carrying the scent of eucalyptus and damp earth. Towering trees formed a canopy overhead, filtering the sunlight into dappled patterns on the forest floor. We noted the hills rolling into the distance, partially obscured by low-hanging clouds; a typical scene for the area.
The track itself proved to be a well-maintained boardwalk, which made for easy walking, despite the occasional undulation. This was welcome, as we are no longer as sprightly as we once were!
We were surrounded by lush ferns and other greenery, creating a verdant tunnel that stretched as far as we could see. A small stream, crystal clear and brimming with life, gurgled alongside the path for a portion of the way.
The gentle sound of the water added to the tranquility of the surroundings.
The diversity of the plant life was truly remarkable. Towering tree ferns stood like ancient sentinels, while smaller varieties carpeted the ground in shades of green.
We observed numerous bird species flitting through the branches, their calls echoing through the forest. We even spotted a wallaby bounding away into the undergrowth, a brief but delightful encounter.
We were glad to have chosen this section of the track. It provided a wonderful opportunity to immerse ourselves in the natural beauty of the Shire of South Gippsland, Victoria, and reminded us of the simple pleasures of a good walk in a beautiful place.
