Port Welshpool, Victoria, with a bit of a gray mood, but the promise of a walk always brightens our spirits. The draw was the iconic Long Jetty. It’s not every day you come across a jetty stretching so far out into the water.

We set off to explore. The sheer length of the jetty is impressive. From the shore, it looks almost impossibly long.

The straight, seemingly endless path of the Long Jetty beckons visitors for a refreshing walk above the waves.

The walk out provided panoramic views of the coastline and the town receding behind us. It's a good way to get your daily steps in, that's for sure.

Reaching the end of the jetty, we found a cleaning table and a life preserver, ready for fishing enthusiasts. The view from the end is something else. The vast expanse of the water on all sides made us feel like we were truly out at sea without the inconvenience of actually being on a boat. We even thought about dropping a line, but then we remembered we'd left our gear in Western Australia, hundreds of kilometers away.

At the end of the Long Jetty, the panorama of water and sky offers a sense of serene isolation, perfect for contemplation or perhaps a spot of fishing.

Still, it was a pleasant way to spend a few hours.
