We found ourselves in Cunninghame, Victoria, and with that feeling of it getting late, the first thing we did was secure a campsite for the night. We ended up at the Lakes Entrance Showgrounds where, lucky for us, they had one spot left.

It wasn’t exactly a secluded wilderness experience, being essentially parked on the edge of an open field, but after a long day, we were grateful for level ground and the promise of a peaceful night’s sleep. The proximity to other travelers also meant we could glean some insights into routes ahead, always a bonus.

And truthfully, sometimes the camaraderie of a campground is more appealing than complete isolation.
While we didn't spend a lot of time exploring Cunninghame proper this trip, it served as a convenient and welcoming stopover. We were just happy to be able to park up for the night after a long drive.
