Bermagui, New South Wales, presented us with a ruggedly beautiful coastline and a few surprises. After our morning coffee, we decided to explore the famous Bermagui Blue Pools.

The dramatic contrast of the turquoise water of the Tasman Sea against the rocky cliffs is striking. We were immediately drawn to the pools themselves, carved into the rocks. It is clear that these ocean pools offer a safe swimming spot, shielded from the rougher waves. It's a rather ingenious adaptation of the natural landscape.
The pools were constructed in such a manner that, while swimming in relative safety, one still has the exhilarating experience of the ocean's constant presence. We noticed families enjoying the pools. There was a palpable sense of community and relaxation in the air.

Walking down the steps to the pools, we observed the careful construction of the handrails and the surrounding concrete. It gives the pools an accessibility and structure that blends well with the chaos of nature all around. The main pool appeared to be quite popular, with numerous swimmers enjoying a dip. Another pool, a bit smaller and shallower, was nearby. Both pools are an interesting way to deal with the unpredictable nature of the ocean. The views of the horizon are fantastic.

Bermagui certainly knows how to turn a rough coastline into a beautiful and safe swimming experience.
