Ulladulla, New South Wales, presented us with a fascinating mix of natural beauty and practical amenities. We found ourselves drawn to the coast, as always. Our exploration started near the unique rock shelf formations just south of the harbour. The exposed rock shelf

creates a bizarre landscape, almost lunar in appearance. We observed several people carefully walking across the rock plateau, likely searching for marine life at low tide. The town sits serenely in the background of our photo.

A short distance away, we discovered a very appealing public swimming pool, remarkably situated right on the coast

. It’s a brilliant set-up, sheltered from the elements and offering incredible views while you get your laps in. We can only imagine how popular this pool gets in the warmer months. It was too chilly to consider a dip ourselves.

The rock shelf's unusual topography led us to explore the area in greater detail. The rock formations have various shapes, textures, and colors. We even found a small cave worn into the cliffs

. The layers of rock are clearly visible, showing the geological history of the area. From this vantage point, we also enjoyed an unobstructed view of the coastline

Before leaving Ulladulla, we took a drive through the harbor

. It appeared to be a working harbor and pleasure craft marina, with various fishing boats and yachts moored. The breakwater is solid, and the whole area seemed well-maintained. Ulladulla, we've decided, is a place that has found a practical and attractive balance.
