Another year, another adventure, and this time we found ourselves in Fairy Meadow, New South Wales, as the clock ticked down to midnight. The atmosphere was buzzing with anticipation; you could practically taste the excitement in the air. It’s amazing how a shared sense of waiting can bring people together, even on a crowded beach.

We chose a spot on the beach, far enough from the crowds to maintain some semblance of personal space, but close enough to feel the energy. The ocean breeze carried the faint scent of salt and something akin to fried snacks emanating from the distant food vendors.
As the final seconds of the year dissolved into history, the sky above Fairy Meadow erupted in a cacophony of light and sound. The fireworks display was nothing short of spectacular.

Vivid colours bloomed against the dark canvas, each explosion drawing gasps and cheers from the assembled onlookers. We confess we are suckers for fireworks, despite all the huffing and puffing about the noise.
The grand finale, of course, was the most impressive. A barrage of pyrotechnics lit up the entire coastline, reflected in the still waters of the ocean.

It was the sort of scene that etches itself into your memory, a perfect way to usher in a new year and the promise of even more adventures to come. Hopefully, this year we will have more luck with the weather than last year - we are still traumatized by that time we were stuck in Birdsville.
