Being away from our family for Christmas was a new experience, but we were determined to make the most of it. Fairy Meadow, New South Wales, proved to be a lovely place to spend the festive season.

We decided to start the day with a refreshing swim at the local rock pools. The clear blue water was invigorating, a perfect way to kick off a warm Christmas day.

It's probably not exactly what our relatives were doing back home in Perth.

The real highlight of the day, though, was our video call with the family. Seeing their smiling faces and the excitement of the grandchildren made us feel connected despite the distance. The family back home were gathered around the tree.

Family is everything, even when separated by thousands of kilometers. This video call made our Christmas complete.

They had a proper Christmas feast.

Christmas lunch, or at least our interpretation of it! Pancakes, berries, and plenty of festive cheer.

The pancakes with fresh berries and syrup were a particular hit, although perhaps not the most traditional Christmas fare. Still, it was a memorable Christmas, spent in a beautiful location, and connected with the people we love most.
