Having settled into Yass, New South Wales, we were keen to explore the town. A morning walk seemed the best way to get our bearings. It quickly became apparent that Yass is a town steeped in history, with a surprising number of well-preserved buildings.

Our walk took us past the old Post Office, a grand structure with a clock tower that still keeps time, as far as we could tell. Across the street, more buildings hinted at a prosperous past. The architecture here is a pleasing mix of styles, reflecting the town's development over the decades. Some buildings look like they were plucked straight from a period drama.

Others, like the former courthouse, appear particularly stately.

We ventured further afield and came across the Yass Public School, a rather impressive building.

It appears to be a fine example of Victorian-era school architecture. The central tower is a striking feature.
Later that day, we visited Cooma Cottage.

A beautiful building with lots of history.
A focal point of our walk was the Yass Weir, which we discovered is quite a sight, especially after some recent rain. The water was flowing strongly, creating a rather impressive display of raw power.

It was a good reminder that even in a settled town like Yass, nature is never far away.
