We found ourselves in Yass, New South Wales, drawn by the promise of a peaceful riverside camp. The initial setting was idyllic; a gently flowing river alongside a quiet, tree-lined spot.

We settled in, anticipating a restful night listening to the sounds of nature.
However, nature had other plans. Overnight, the river, initially a docile stream, began to rise. We awoke to find the water level significantly higher than it had been the evening before. The steady increase continued throughout the day, transforming the landscape. What started as a gentle flow became a surging current, lapping higher and higher up the banks.

The water encroached on trees along the riverbank. The whole scene was a rather dramatic demonstration of water's power and a stark reminder that even the most tranquil settings can shift unexpectedly.
