Our second day in Forbes, New South Wales, afforded us ample opportunity for a thorough exploration of the town. We find that often, a second look allows you to discover the subtle charms you missed the first time.

After a particularly restorative morning tea, we decided on a leisurely walk around Lake Forbes. The still water reflected the clear blue sky with hardly a ripple. It was a truly picturesque scene, although we both agreed that the fountain in the middle of the lake could perhaps be a little less enthusiastic. A more gentle spray might be more in keeping with the tranquility of the surroundings.

We were pleasantly surprised by the well-maintained walking path circling the lake, providing easy access to various vantage points. The waterbirds seemed quite accustomed to human company, offering a pleasant distraction as we strolled along. It’s always nice to see a community making such good use of its natural assets.
Later in the day, after the walk, we took in some of the local architecture. The old Dunk building, now clearly repurposed for something else, stands proudly and has a great presence.

It’s a solid reminder of the town's rich history. These old buildings always fascinate us, and we find ourselves imagining the stories they could tell.
Forbes has a certain understated elegance, a quiet confidence that endears it to visitors. We'll be sure to revisit it again.
