We've found that Katoomba, New South Wales, holds a certain charm, a rugged beauty that continues to draw us back. It was time for another visit to Scenic World, this time with a very specific agenda: experiencing the cable car and the famously steep railway.
The view from the cable car is, in a word, stunning. As the car glides across the gorge, you're treated to an unparalleled panorama of the Jamison Valley.

The seemingly endless expanse of eucalyptus forest stretches to the horizon, broken only by the dramatic cliffs and rock formations that define the Blue Mountains. It's the kind of view that reminds you just how vast and untamed this country still is.
Of course, a visit to Katoomba wouldn't be complete without paying homage to the Three Sisters. From our vantage point at Scenic World, they stand proud and majestic.

We took a moment to appreciate the ancient Aboriginal Dreamtime story associated with these iconic rock formations. It’s a powerful reminder of the rich cultural heritage that underpins this region.

You can also spot smaller but equally impressive rock formations in the distance, testament to millions of years of erosion and geological activity.
The Scenic Cableway was a gentle experience.

It was a nice respite from the midday sun.
But the real thrill of the day came with the Scenic Railway. Let's be honest, the near-vertical descent is not for the faint of heart.

Plummeting into the valley on what feels like a runaway train is both terrifying and exhilarating. The railway's history as a coal mine incline adds another layer of interest to the experience. It's a testament to the ingenuity and determination of the early miners who carved a living out of this rugged landscape. It's nice that we can take advantage of all their hard work!
