We thought a quiet afternoon by Lake Canobolas near Orange would be just the ticket. We envisioned a serene lakeside picnic, perhaps a bit of birdwatching. What we discovered upon arrival, however, was anything but quiet.

The lakefront was teeming with activity; a dragon boat race was in full swing. A colourful mass of competitors in various states of pre-race readiness milled about, their team colours a vibrant contrast to the still water.

The air crackled with anticipation, the rhythmic beat of drums echoing across the water. While we weren't anticipating such a spectacle, we certainly weren't complaining. There's always something happening, somewhere, even in the most peaceful-seeming locations. The Lakeside Cafe looked busy with people, likely spectators enjoying the day, like us.

We decided to join them and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere.

Towac and the surrounding area are showing off a lot of bright flowers. It might not be what we were expecting, but we ended up enjoying watching the dragon boats. We even made a little foray into some local flora.
