We often find that the best travel experiences are the unplanned ones, the little detours that lead to unexpected discoveries. Such was the case during our recent travels when we decided to stop for morning tea in the village of Cumnock, New South Wales.

Cumnock is a small place, mind you, but its quirky charm has a way of grabbing your attention.
The first thing that struck us was the... unconventional public art. We spotted a metal creation depicting an eagle riding a motorcycle in a paddock.

It was so bizarre that we simply had to pull over and take a closer look. We have seen our share of roadside attractions, but this one definitely ranks high on the list of "things we never expected to see in rural New South Wales."
And the surprises didn't stop there. A gorilla family riding a merry-go-round powered by a bicycle? Why not? This sculpture sits proudly outside a brick building, a curious juxtaposition of the historical and the utterly absurd.

It just goes to show that you never know what you might find when you explore the backroads of Australia. In Cumnock, New South Wales, a healthy sense of humor is clearly thriving.
