Our quest for a peaceful overnight camp near Carcoar, New South Wales, took an unexpected turn. We had heard whispers about the local dam being a good spot to settle in for the night, so we decided to check it out.

Unfortunately, it seemed half of New South Wales had the same brilliant idea. The dam was absolutely heaving with fellow travelers, all vying for a patch of land to call their own for the night.

A sea of campers at the Carcoar dam, each vying for a slice of lakeside serenity. Clearly, we weren't the only ones seeking a peaceful escape.

While there were a few spots still available, none of them were quite large enough to accommodate our, shall we say, *substantial* setup. We briefly considered trying to squeeze in, but the thought of maneuvering in such a tight space, with an audience, made us reconsider. Let's just say our reversing skills are better appreciated from a safe distance.

So, with a sigh (mostly from Steve, Lisa was already strategizing alternatives), we conceded defeat in the quest for a dam-side campsite. A quick consultation of the map led us to a nearby lookout point. It wasn't quite the idyllic lakeside retreat we’d envisioned, but it was certainly spacious.

Our trusty rig parked at the Carcoar lookout, a temporary haven after the crowded dam fiasco.

And, more importantly, vacant. The view overlooking the green hills surrounding Carcoar was, admittedly, quite picturesque. We set up for the night, grateful for the fresh air and the lack of neighbors. Sometimes, the best adventures are the ones you didn’t plan.
