While neither of us is an avid cricket fan, we have watched a few games on the telly over the years. So, as we passed through Cootamundra, New South Wales, a visit to the birthplace of Sir Donald Bradman was a must.
The town has done a remarkable job commemorating its most famous son. Our first stop was the Bradman Birthplace Museum. It's a modest but well-preserved weatherboard house

, giving a glimpse into the early life of the boy who would become a cricketing legend. The displays inside are surprisingly engaging, even for someone like Lisa, who's more interested in antique shops than cricket scores. We appreciated the meticulously curated exhibits, from vintage cricket bats to photographs spanning Bradman's illustrious career.

From the museum, we took a short stroll to the Sir Donald Bradman Cricket Walk. This is a unique memorial: a green space adorned with busts of cricket's greats. It's quite a sight to behold, even for those of us with limited cricket knowledge.

The sheer number of statues, each a bronze or concrete representation of a cricketing icon, makes it clear that cricket is more than just a game in this part of the world.
