After a soggy sojourn in Tocumwal, we ventured further into Victoria, arriving in the small town of Picola. This unassuming locale holds a visual treat for those with a keen eye for art and a love for Australian wildlife.
Picola boasts its own contribution to the silo art landscape, thanks to the talent of artist Jimmy Dvate. Unlike some of the more abstract or historical-themed silos we've encountered, these tell a story of the local fauna in striking detail.

The most immediately striking feature is the vivid depiction of a Superb Parrot. The sheer scale of the artwork is impressive, but the meticulous detail truly captures the vibrant plumage of this bird, making it feel as though it could take flight at any moment. The eye contact made us think we were being judged; we probably were.
The second silo presents a broader panorama of the local ecosystem.

A Great Egret, rendered with incredible accuracy, takes center stage amidst a scene teeming with native animals. Kangaroos graze peacefully in the background, while delicate flora adds a touch of softness to the industrial canvas. The mirroring effect of the water creates a sense of depth and tranquility, making the silo seem almost like a window into a hidden world. It is a very clever artistic flourish.
These artworks in Picola are not just paintings on silos, they’re a testament to the rich biodiversity of the region and a celebration of Australia’s natural beauty. This destination proved that sometimes, the most impressive art is found in the most unexpected places, reminding us to always keep our eyes peeled on our ramblings across Oz.
