After our silo art tour in Rochester, we thought we would continue exploring City of Greater Shepparton, Victoria. Our plan was for a brief morning tea stop in Murchison, a town we knew little about. Well, that "brief" stop turned into several hours as we were captivated by the town's unexpected charm.

First impressions matter, and Murchison certainly made a good one with its tidy main street and old-world architecture. We are always drawn to the historical elements of a town, and Murchison has clearly taken steps to maintain its heritage.
As we strolled around, we noticed something rather unusual: vibrantly decorated cow sculptures!

Now, we've seen public art displays before, but these were particularly striking. Each cow seemed to have its own distinct personality and artistic style.
It turns out the cows are part of a public art project linked to the story of the Murchison Meteorite. We learned that in 1969, a meteorite landed near Murchison, making the town somewhat famous in scientific circles. The town even put up displays to tell the story.

While walking, we also passed a lovely, well-maintained heritage building.

Murchison may be small, but it has a certain dignity and quiet pride.
Before we left, we took one last look at the painted cows, each a testament to the town's quirky character.

What started as a quick stop turned into a memorable experience. If you're ever passing through City of Greater Shepparton, Victoria, we highly recommend taking a detour to Murchison. You might be surprised by what you discover.
