Continuing our Victorian travels, we made our way to Rochester, a town that has clearly embraced the concept of turning functional structures into stunning works of art. We've seen our fair share of silo art by now, but the scale and detail here were something truly special.
The GrainCorp silos dominate the landscape, and for good reason. They've become enormous canvases showcasing the talent of artist Jimmy Dvate. What makes this location particularly unique is the fact that the silos are in the middle of being updated with new murals, providing a unique behind-the-scenes glimpse into the artist's process.

We found ourselves captivated by the emerging images; each silo face is a testament to the rich biodiversity of the local area. The meticulous brushwork brings the native wildlife to life on a monumental scale. We observed a sugar glider perched precariously on a branch, its eyes seemingly following our every move. Nearby, a kookaburra watches with its ever-present, slightly judgmental gaze.
It’s worth mentioning that while we were there, Jimmy Dvate was actively working on the third stage of this project. The scale of the project is extremely impressive.

The artwork shows an appreciation of the area’s native wildlife strikingly and engagingly. The silos at Rochester are a must-see for anyone travelling through the region.
