After our explorations of Woomelang, we set our sights on Avoca, Victoria, drawn by whispers of artistic innovation and agricultural monuments transformed. The Avoca Silo Art project was completed in March 2021, a relatively recent addition to the ever-growing Australian Silo Art Trail.
The artist, Jimmi Buscombe, clearly collaborated with the Avoca Community Arts & Gardens on the design, with the noble aim of promoting awareness about the region's rare and endangered flora and fauna. We can certainly appreciate public art with a purpose, especially when it contributes to conservation efforts.

What we find truly intriguing, and frankly disappointing to have missed, is the interactive nighttime element incorporated into the silo design. Apparently, glow-in-the-dark strontium paint highlights particular elements of the artwork, providing an entirely different viewing experience after sunset. This is a clever twist, adding a layer of engagement beyond the typical static mural. Chalk it up to experience – next time, we will arrive before nightfall.
Adjacent to the silo, a smaller structure bears a mural proclaiming "The Barking Owl Creative," featuring a delightful menagerie of native creatures. The attention to detail, even on this smaller canvas, demonstrates a clear passion for the local environment.

The Silo and its little companion create a charming introduction to Avoca.
