Leaving behind the stark beauty of the wheatbelt, we turned our compass eastward, deciding that a small town with a welcoming name was exactly what we needed. Woomelang, Victoria, proved to be a delightful surprise, offering both respite and a touch of artistic flair.
Our initial intention was simply to find a quiet spot to rest for the night. It appears we found a gem! The setting offered not only a place to park for the night but also water views from the door.

But Woomelang held another unexpected treasure – beautiful painted silos! Well, not *silos* exactly, but smaller water tanks. And they are not part of a *trail* per se, but that makes them even more special. They are each emblazoned with a stunning depiction of a Mallee Emu-wren. One painted male.

The other, a painted female.

These were the work of artist Jimmy Dvate, and we have to say, he has captured the delicate beauty of these tiny birds with remarkable skill. We find it quite pleasant to know that such a talented artist has brought his talents to this little town.
Who knew that Woomelang had such a lovely place to stop? We think we did quite well in choosing the day's destination.
