Our travels through the Wimmera region of Victoria continued, leading us to the aptly named town of Rainbow. We admit, the name alone piqued our interest. Was it just a name, or would we find a pot of gold (or at least a decent bakery) at the end? We were determined to find out.

Rainbow, Victoria, greets visitors with exactly what you'd expect: a giant rainbow. The welcoming sign is certainly hard to miss, and does exactly what a welcoming sign should do. The town's main street boasts a surprising number of well-maintained historic buildings. Walking along it, we noted the classic Australian architecture that is slowly disappearing from many rural towns.

It is refreshing to see a town preserve its original heritage in the face of modern progress.
We stopped into Rainbow Sweets, a shop front packed with colourful, eye-catching delights.

Stepping inside, we found a treasure trove of candies, chocolates, and treats we hadn't seen since our childhood. It's the kind of shop where you can easily lose track of time and emerge with a sugar rush and a smile.
On the edge of town, standing proud against the expansive sky, are the Rainbow Silos. We can confirm they are a visual spectacle.

The vibrant colours and detailed artwork on the silos transform what would otherwise be utilitarian structures into a celebration of the region and its people.
Before leaving, we took a detour to check out one of the grandest private estates we've seen in some time. The exterior of Albacutya House is immaculately maintained, with stunning manicured grounds.

It is a very impressive building that feels like stepping back in time. We may have spent a bit too long peering through the wrought iron gates, admiring the details of the homestead.
Rainbow turned out to be more than just a name. It's a town with a lot of small-town charm, a touch of whimsy, and a generous helping of history.
