Having spent the last few days exploring the Wimmera's artistic and historical offerings, we decided to head further northwest. Our destination? The small town of Ouyen, Victoria. We needed a bit of rest and time for some nature.
We found ourselves setting up camp a short distance from town, at a bush camping area that proved to be a surprising oasis.

The area features a large dam, which, despite the arid landscape surrounding it, was full of water and reflected the surrounding trees beautifully. The birdlife was particularly active, a welcome contrast to the sometimes-stark silence of the outback.
After setting up, and as the sun began to dip below the horizon, it was time for a cuppa. There's something deeply satisfying about brewing tea over an open fire in the bush.

The aroma of eucalyptus mingled with the smoky scent of the fire, creating a quintessential Australian sensory experience. As we sipped our tea, we reflected on the simple pleasures of traveling and the unexpected beauty that can be found in the most unassuming of places.
Ouyen may not be on everyone's must-see list, but for us, it provided a welcome respite and a reminder that even in the driest landscapes, life can flourish. We can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.
