After our visit to the Stick Shed , we decided to spend a bit more time discovering what else Murtoa had to offer.
Our first stop was the Murtoa Memorial Park, a serene space overlooking the lake.

The War Memorial, with its solemn inscription "In Memory of Our Soldiers," stood proudly against the backdrop of blue sky and water. It's a moving tribute, and the meticulous upkeep of the park speaks volumes about the community's respect for its veterans.
Wandering through the town, we stumbled upon an old, two-story building.

Its aged facade and distinctive architecture hint at its past; we imagine it was a bank or an important commercial building in its day. While we're not entirely certain of its original purpose, its presence adds to the historical character of Murtoa.
However, the biggest surprise was the giant mosaic goanna we spotted near the roadside!

This wasn't something we expected to find in a small Victorian town. The detail in the mosaic is quite remarkable, and it certainly adds a touch of whimsy to the streetscape. It appears to be a permanent art installation, seemingly quite happy in its roadside garden bed.
Murtoa, Victoria, continues to deliver the unexpected. From honoring the fallen to embracing art, it's a place that offers more than meets the eye.
