The Rural City of Horsham, Victoria, proved to be just the place we needed to recharge the batteries. It's amazing how quickly a change of scenery can lift the spirits, even when that scenery includes the mundane realities of life on the road.

We're talking, of course, about the never-ending battle with laundry. While some travelers might opt for laundromats, we prefer the al fresco approach. There's a certain satisfaction in seeing clean clothes flapping in the breeze, even if it means our temporary home resembles a mobile washing line.

It’s not all domestic drudgery, though. Horsham boasts a landscape that's worth writing home about. The surrounding Wimmera region offers stunning views, particularly at this time of year when the canola fields are in full bloom.

The contrast between the vibrant yellow and the striking red cliffs is truly something to behold. It's the sort of scenery that makes you want to pull over and just take it all in, which, naturally, we did. We found ourselves wondering how many others were compelled to stop and soak it all in.

Horsham itself is a surprisingly vibrant town, with a decent range of shops and cafes. After a few days of relative isolation, it was nice to be among people again, even if it was just to overhear snippets of conversations in the local bakery. There’s a rhythm to life in these regional towns that’s quite comforting.
