There's a particular joy in finding art where you least expect it, and that's certainly the case in Galga, South Australia. We were in the area, following the back roads that crisscross this part of the state, when we spotted the towering silos. What sets these silos apart isn't just their size, but the powerful artwork covering them.

The Galga silos reach for the sky, bearing witness to stories of service and sacrifice rendered in bold strokes and thoughtful detail.

These aren't just murals; they're a memorial. Artist Jarrod Loxton has created a poignant tribute to the men and women who have served our country, specifically those with connections to the Galga community. Poppies bloom at the base of the silo, a powerful symbol of remembrance. The mural features portraits of servicemen and women, their faces rendered with incredible detail.

The sheer scale of the artwork is impressive. Standing at the base of the silo, you truly get a sense of the artist's vision and the impact it has on the landscape. There's a solemnity about the place, a quiet reverence for the stories these silos tell. An image of a plane in flight adorns one side.

The silos serve as a reminder that even in the most remote of locations, art can be a powerful force for commemoration and community connection. It’s a fitting tribute, ensuring that the sacrifices of those who came before us are never forgotten. We were thankful for the opportunity to stop and appreciate this poignant piece of public art.

We always find these places are worth the stop.
