Our travels often take us to unexpected places, and Eudunda, South Australia, proved to be one such delightful surprise. Following in the footsteps of other South Australian towns with painted silos, we weren't disappointed. These aren't just painted silos; they are enormous monuments to literature and local heritage.

The Eudunda silos stand proudly, adorned with characters and scenes from Colin Thiele's books and local Indigenous stories. The murals transform these industrial structures into vibrant displays of art.

The silos stand as a tribute to Colin Thiele, one of South Australia’s most beloved authors, who grew up in the Eudunda area. The artwork incorporates elements from his life and work, most notably his children's book, "Sun on the Stubble." One silo depicts a young girl, possibly representing a character from one of Thiele's stories, gazing out with the boundless curiosity of youth. Alongside her is a scene reminiscent of rural life, with children and sheep amongst the stubble. The second silo captures the rich indigenous heritage with imagery inspired by "Ngangajun."

We appreciate the effort to breathe new life into functional agricultural structures and how these artworks draw visitors into the heart of these communities.
