We've always found that the true heart of South Australia lies in its small, unassuming towns, and Wilmington proved us right yet again. Nestled near the Flinders Ranges, it's a place where history lingers in the air, and quirky collections await around every corner.
Our first stop, naturally, was to simply wander the streets. Wilmington possesses a quiet charm, exemplified by its historic buildings. The Immaculate Conception Church, framed beautifully by mature trees, stands as a testament to the town's heritage.

Further along, we passed by impeccably maintained period homes, their gardens bursting with colour.

The local Anglican Church, too, possesses a solid beauty, even if its aesthetics lean more toward the utilitarian.

Of course, no small town is complete without a pub, and the Wilmington Hotel looked suitably inviting.

It was a beautifully clear day; ideal for a stroll.
But the true surprise of Wilmington lay hidden behind an unassuming façade – the Wilmington Toy Museum. From the moment we stepped inside, we were transported back to our childhoods. Aisles upon aisles overflowed with model cars, trucks, and trains, meticulously arranged and lovingly displayed.

It's a collection built from a lifetime of passion, and it's truly something to behold. We could have spent hours simply admiring the miniature worlds recreated within the display cases.

It's a remarkable testament to the collector's dedication.
The Toy Museum itself is a landmark, advertised by an old car perched jauntily above the entrance.

It seems like most of the town's visitors stop to admire the vehicles parked out front. It's a unique attraction and very much worth a visit! Wilmington offered us a delightful glimpse into a slower pace of life, a reminder that beauty and fascination can be found in the most unexpected places.
