Something is grounding about being in a place where the skies seem endless, and the air is crisp, even if the ground is a little rough. After setting up, we felt compelled to stretch our legs and explore the area.

Just a short walk from the showgrounds, we discovered the Australian Farmer Monument. It's an imposing, yet beautiful, structure.

It truly dominates the landscape. This monument is a tribute to the farmers who have shaped, and continue to shape, the region. The stylised human form, the wheat and sheep motifs, the very choice of granite, everything speaks of resilience and the enduring connection between the people and the land.

We circled the monument, reading the inscriptions, noting the names of local businesses that contributed to its creation. It's more than just a statue; it's a focal point for the community, a reminder of their shared history and the challenges they've overcome.

The monument really makes you think of the generations of families who have worked the land in this area. You have to respect the hard work and determination it takes to thrive in the outback. It's a stoic memorial, a silent sentinel watching over Wudinna. It's also a reminder of the importance of agriculture to the Australian way of life.
