We've always had a soft spot for the quirky roadside attractions that dot this vast country, and the Ninety Mile Straight definitely fits the bill. Finding ourselves in Cocklebiddy, Western Australia, and soon we were on our way to experiencing one of Australia’s, and indeed the world’s, longest stretches of dead straight road.

Our morning started much like any other on the road: a cup of tea and a quick check of the rig. We found a convenient spot off the main road to pull over for that obligatory photo opportunity.

We are never sure why people take these pictures, but there’s a reason they’re called “obligatory”, isn’t there?
After the Ninety Mile Straight, we decided to settle in for the evening. We found a nice spot off the road. You can see the rig sitting there as the shadows start to grow longer.

There’s nothing like a crackling fire under a star-filled sky.

It’s the perfect way to wind down after a day of driving. The coals glowed, casting dancing shadows that kept us company as we watched the stars begin their nightly performance.

Simple pleasures, indeed.
