Westonia offers a glimpse into Western Australia's rich mining past, alongside a few unexpected surprises. We took a short walk around the area, starting with a visit to the Edna May Gold Mine lookout.

The sheer scale of the operation is impressive. This open-pit gold mine has been in operation, off and on, since the early 1900s, and has produced a considerable amount of gold over the years. The layers of earth, exposed like the rings of a very old tree, tell a story of time and industry. It's a stark reminder of the resources that lie beneath our feet.
Wandering back towards the town centre in Westonia, we came across a quirky little display β a tribute to D.L. Simmonds General Carriers Contractors, Westonia.

Complete with an old truck and what appears to be a vintage outhouse, it's a charmingly rustic nod to the past. We're not sure what the story behind the teapot on the step is, but it adds to the overall character.
Later, Lisa's eye was drawn to a splash of colour in a local shop. We popped in, and she found a vibrant yellow top with a striking necklace.

One never knows what treasures one might discover in a small town in Western Australia. Itβs a far cry from the rugged landscape of the gold mine, but it's these unexpected finds that make exploring worthwhile.
