We’ve had a wonderful time exploring around Smithton, but it was finally time for us to pack up and see what the next stretch of the Tasmanian coast had in store. Our final morning at the Tall Timbers campsite was a quiet one, giving me a chance to really appreciate how lush this part of the world is. Everything is so vibrant and deep green, a far cry from some of the parched landscapes we’re used to back home.

Before we hit the road, I took a bit of a stroll around the grass. Lisa noticed a pair of bright red mushrooms growing right at the base of a thick, textured tree trunk. They stood out beautifully against the carpet of fallen brown leaves. It’s the little details like that which make these stops so memorable.

The grounds at the Smithton camp are really something special. There is a gentle creek that winds its way through the property, with a massive weeping willow hanging its branches right down toward the water. I spent a moment just watching the water ripple over the rocks. It’s a very peaceful spot, and it was almost a shame to leave it behind, but the road was calling.

We made our way over to Burnie, and I think we’ve found an absolute gem at Green Point Reserve. The weather has truly turned it on for us—the sky is a clear, brilliant blue without a hint of a breeze. We are parked right near the water’s edge, with nothing but a simple fence between us and the Bass Strait. Seeing the sun glinting off the ripples in the ocean is a pretty good way to settle into a new backyard.

As evening approached, we were treated to a spectacular show. The sun dipped low toward the horizon, painting the entire sky in shades of gold and orange. The light reflected perfectly off the water, and the headland in the distance stood out as a dark silhouette against the glow. Lisa and I sat out on the grass, soaking up the last of the warmth. It’s been a perfect transition from the forest greens of Smithton to the deep blues of the coast here in Burnie.
