We woke up in Triabunna to the kind of morning that makes you want to kick yourself for not waiting just one more day. It was absolutely stunning—a massive contrast to the weather we’d been dealing with. Lisa couldn't help but point out that we really should have saved our trip over to the island for a day like this, but hindsight is a wonderful thing, isn't it?
It was supposed to be a productive catch-up day for us. We had the usual rounds of washing to do, and we needed to get the water bladder filled and transferred across to the van, along with the less glamorous job of refreshing the toilet. But as they say, the best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry. For some reason, Steve’s sense of balance completely deserted him. He was feeling incredibly woozy and was falling about all over the place. It was quite a worry; he had real trouble even walking and felt very dizzy. In the end, we decided the only thing for it was for Steve to spend the day flat on his back in bed to make the spinning stop.

While Steve was resting up, Lisa decided to make the most of the gorgeous sunshine and wander around town. She has really taken to Triabunna; there is a quiet, friendly charm here that grows on you. She spent a good portion of the afternoon sitting by the water and catching up on her journal. The harbour was looking spectacular under that clear sky, with the masts of the boats reflecting in the deep blue water. The grandkids would have loved seeing all the different vessels lined up, from the working fishing boats to the sleek yachts.

Lisa also spent some time poking around the local shopfronts. She’s always had an eye for the little details that make a coastal town feel special. She found some beautiful window displays that captured the spirit of the place perfectly. One window had these lovely long strands of seashells and little painted wooden fish hanging up, looking just like something we should have on a verandah back home.

Further down, she spotted a wonderful mobile with bright turquoise birds and beads that seemed to dance in the window. It’s those little creative touches that make Triabunna feel like more than just a stopover. It was a quiet day for us, and certainly not what we had planned, but sometimes the road tells you when it’s time to slow down and just breathe in the sea air—even if one of us had to do it from the comfort of a pillow!
