With the Bass Strait crossing behind us, we were keen to stretch our legs and explore a bit of Devonport. After settling in, we decided to venture across the river to see what the north side had to offer.

The view of the city from across the water is quite striking, really giving one a sense of the scale of the place and the importance of the Mersey River.

We made our way up to the point, drawn in by the statue standing sentinel at the river mouth.

This striking monument faces out to sea, a proud figure standing against the backdrop of the harbor entrance. The Spirit of Tasmania, looking right at home, was sitting pretty out on the water.

From there, we took a walk along the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Avenue.

It’s a solemn and well-maintained tribute to those who served. We stopped to read the plaques, each one dedicated to the memory of Tasmanian servicemen who gave their lives in the Vietnam War.

It's sobering to consider the sacrifices made by these young men and their families. The detail on the plaques is remarkable, preserving their memory for generations to come. It's a fitting memorial in a peaceful setting.
