After our ferry crossing, we began our exploration of Tasmania. Our first stop: Latrobe. It's a charming little town, and our primary reason for visiting was one place in particular: Reliquaire.

Now, "eclectic" doesn't even begin to cover this place. It's more like stepping into the mind of a very imaginative, and perhaps slightly eccentric, collector. The moment we walked in, we knew we were in for an experience.
The displays range from the whimsical to the historical, often within arm's reach of each other.

There's a whole Alice in Wonderland tableau, for example, and then you turn the corner and find yourself surrounded by medieval armour.

Lisa found the puppet collection oddly captivating.

Perhaps it reminded her of our grandkids.
The sheer volume of items is astounding. One could spend hours just wandering through the rooms, discovering new treasures with every step. There are stuffed animals of every kind imaginable, from the mundane to the exotic.

A veritable menagerie, frozen in time.
After that visual feast, we figured we deserved an actual feast. A local bakery was just the thing, and a blueberry pastry certainly hit the spot.

A delightful treat to cap off our exploration of Latrobe. We'd recommend this to anyone with a sense of wonder, or anyone who appreciates a good collection.
