We rolled into Coonalpyn, South Australia, hoping for a decent coffee and maybe a quick bite. What we found was so much more. Of course, the imposing silo art is what initially draws you in. Artist Guido van Helten has created a stunning piece depicting local children, their faces full of character and depth. The sheer scale is breathtaking, and the photorealism is truly remarkable.

You can easily spend a good half hour just wandering around, taking it all in, and trying to capture the perfect shot.
But the real surprise of Coonalpyn isn't just the silos; it's the quirky charm and incredible waffles at the Silo Cafe.

You can't miss the metal cutout of a painter on a cherry picker and the cartoon woman promoting the Silo Cafe as you drive up. This place is owned by a legend in town.
And speaking of the Silo Cafe, you absolutely HAVE to try the Liege waffles!

Seriously, I'm not usually one for overly sweet things, but these are something special. They're buttery, crispy, and caramelised to perfection. Lisa went for the classic with strawberries and chocolate sauce.

I was tempted by the salted caramel option, but I eventually went with the classic strawberry and chocolate option.
So, if you're ever passing through Coonalpyn, South Australia, make sure you stop. Check out the incredible silo art, and indulge in a Liege waffle at the Silo Cafe. You won't regret it.
