We’d heard whispers of Balaklava, South Australia, a small town north of Adelaide, and decided to make it a stop on our travels. We always try to absorb a bit of local history wherever we go, finding the stories behind places often more compelling than the places themselves.
We found a well-placed information board outlining the history and layout of Balaklava.

It was quite comprehensive, detailing everything from the town’s establishment in 1847 to its agricultural significance. Balaklava, we learned, serves as a crucial hub for wheat, barley, and sheep in the region, continuing its legacy as a vital agricultural centre. It's always interesting to see how towns evolve and maintain their core identities.
