We decided to make a stop at the Whyalla Jetty. The views are picturesque, as you can see.

The foreshore is well-maintained, with plenty of spots to sit and just watch the world go by. We were planning on having a quick bite to eat, taking a stroll along the jetty, and then moving on. Little did we know, Whyalla had a surprise in store for us.

The jetty itself is quite the structure, extending a fair distance out into the Spencer Gulf.

As we walked towards the end, taking in the clear turquoise water, we noticed a commotion.

Then we saw them. A pod of dolphins, maybe a half-dozen, were swimming right alongside the jetty. They weren't just passing through either. They were frolicking, playing, and generally doing dolphin things. It was such a treat to watch. They were so close we could easily see them, their sleek bodies glistening in the sun. They seemed completely unconcerned by the people watching them, just going about their day. We spent a good while just captivated by their antics.

Made our day, it did. It just goes to show you, sometimes the best travel experiences are the unexpected ones.
