We spent the night just east of the border, near Mundrabilla, preparing for a day of exploring the Nullarbor's coastal wonders. There’s a certain stark beauty to this landscape; it’s not lush, but it’s certainly captivating.

The scrubby vegetation has a tenacity that we find quite admirable.
Our first stop on the Nullarbor Plain, after a quick stop in Ceduna for supplies, was Bight Lookout No. 2. It's a short walk from the parking area, but the view is spectacular. The rugged coastline stretching out before us, the turquoise water crashing against the cliffs, it’s a quintessential Australian vista. Lisa claims she spotted a whale spouting way out on the horizon, but all I saw was a particularly enthusiastic wave. We continued on to Bight Lookout No. 1.

Standing there, on the edge of the continent in South Australia, the vastness of the ocean and the seemingly endless expanse of the Nullarbor behind us, it really puts things into perspective. Even after all our travels, the sheer scale of this country still manages to take our breath away. It can be a bit windy up there, so best to hold onto your hat.

We certainly wouldn't want to lose ours to the Southern Ocean!
