Bourke offered us a needed overnight stop, a brief respite before crossing into South Australia. The plan is to drive from dawn until dusk, aiming to put some serious kilometres behind me.

The stark beauty of the landscape around Bourke is undeniable, even under the fading light.

The real highlight of the day came in the form of a phone call. Lisa’s mother, after a worrying period, is thankfully out of the critical stage. Doctors have diagnosed the issue and will be fitting a pacemaker. For a while there, it was touch-and-go. News like that puts everything else into perspective, doesn't it? It certainly makes the long stretches of road seem a little less daunting.

With the news of Lisa's mother’s improving condition, I am looking forward to getting to South Australia.
