After consulting our trusty maps (digital and paper, because redundancy is key), we settled on a free camp just outside Obi Obi. A highway free camp might not sound like the height of tranquility, but sometimes the best spots are the ones that are easily accessible.
Our arrival revealed a fairly level, grassy expanse dotted with trees, providing decent shade.

There were other campers already set up, a mix of tents and vans, spread out enough to maintain a sense of personal space. One of the biggest surprises, given its proximity to the road, was the pervasive quiet, broken only by the occasional passing vehicle.
The landscape here is truly restful, even with the sounds of transport nearby.

The rolling hills and lush greenery reminded us that we were indeed on the Sunshine Coast, despite being a short distance from the beach. This inland area really has its own charm.
However, the most charming of all of our neighbours at this free camp were definitely of the bovine variety.

The adjacent field was home to a small herd of very curious cattle. They seemed utterly unfazed by our presence, content to graze and occasionally glance in our direction with what we interpreted as mild amusement. We suppose we are an unusual sight.
All in all, it was a pleasant enough stop, offering a convenient and cost-effective base for exploring a bit more of the Sunshine Coast hinterland. We wouldn't hesitate to use it again.
