Maryborough, Queensland, was our destination. We were there for a caravan owners rally, but we always aim to see what the local area has to offer. Turns out, Maryborough has a lot more charm than we initially anticipated.
The town itself is quite pretty.

The central park boasts a rather ornate fountain, complete with herons and cherubic statuary, a welcome sight after the open road. The park also has an unusual feature:

miniature railway lines running around the trees. We can only imagine the joy this brings to the local children and, if we are honest, perhaps a few adults too.
Of course, no visit to Maryborough is complete without acknowledging its most famous daughter: P.L. Travers, the author of Mary Poppins.

We saw a bronze statue of Mary Poppins herself, holding her iconic umbrella, and we couldn't resist taking a photo. Lisa insisted on having her picture taken with it. We are not sure if Lisa shares some aspiration to fly with her umbrella, but she was happy with the photo.
During our wanderings, we also passed the Maryborough Story Bank.

Unfortunately, it was closed when we visited. Still, the exterior of the building was interesting. A historical building, now a museum, perhaps we will visit if we return to Maryborough.
Maryborough proved to be a pleasant surprise. It is definitely worth a stop if you are passing through the Fraser Coast region.
